Meet The Team | Ivars Alksnis | Mechanical Design Engineer
Can you tell us about your role in TC TECH’s development team and what your main responsibilities are?
As a mechanical engineer at TC TECH, I work in the development team where we focus on creating new solutions to meet the needs of new technologies. My main responsibility is to work with my team to design and build machines that help us make nanopatterns on optical films, which are used in future products. It’s really interesting because it combines physics, mechanics, and electrical engineering.
A big part of my job is making sure that these new ideas can be produced in small steps and scaled up for production. This is challenging because new inventions and materials are always being developed. But it’s also exciting to see how these new materials and patterns can make a real difference in future products.
What makes the TCP170 unique?
The TCP170 is unique primarily because of its high replication capabilities. This means it can produce very precise and consistent nanopatterns, which is crucial for the high-quality standards of our customers. By optimizing these variables, we can continuously improve the replication quality, ensuring that the end result meets or exceeds the expectations for various applications. This flexibility and ability to adapt to different customer needs is what makes the TCP170 stand out in the market.

In which industries do our customers operate?
Our customers operate in a variety of industries that require advanced optical and microfluid solutions. One key area is in products with displays, such as smartphones, TVs, and other electronics with different displays, where optical films are used to improve visual quality and functionality. In addition, our technology is used in the development of melting plastic channels for microfluid. In future this includes creating precise and durable components for devices like sensors and diagnostic equipment.
The versatility of optical films and our replication technology makes our solutions valuable across a wide range of sectors, contributing to both innovative product designs and improved performance.
What is important for fostering an innovative corporate environment?
Fostering an innovative corporate environment requires creating a culture where employees feel encouraged to contribute their ideas and collaborate openly. At our company, we prioritize creative meetings where team members can freely engage in brainstorming sessions and problem-solving, all with a clear focus on specific tasks or challenges. This open approach allows for diverse perspectives to be heard, leading to more innovative solutions.
In addition, it’s crucial to establish a robust shared knowledge base within the team. By continuously developing skills and promoting learning, we not only stay ahead of technological advancements but also create an environment where employees feel empowered to experiment and explore new ideas. Innovation thrives when there is a clear commitment to continuous growth and improvement.
Positive feedback also plays a key role in fostering this environment. When employees receive recognition for their contributions, it motivates them to keep pushing boundaries and taking on new challenges. This combination of open collaboration, skill development, and positive reinforcement creates a sense of job satisfaction and encourages employees to stay engaged and invested in the company’s success.
